Influenza Diagnostic Test Kits

BioStar® OIA® FLU and Biostar® OIA® FLU A/B are two point of care influenza diagnostic kits, manufactured and marketed by Biota's U.S. based commercialisation partner Inverness Medical, as part of their BioStar® product range.

BioStar® OIA® FLU

BioStar® OIA® FLU has been marketed and sold in the United States since December 1998. BioStar® OIA® FLU specifically detects influenza and can assist the physician to differentiate influenza from other respiratory infections which may display similar symptoms. The ability to differentially diagnose influenza, enables the physician to make an informed decision about treating the patient with an influenza specific drug. The test is designed for use in a doctor's office, laboratories and hospitals and provides a quick and accurate diagnosis.

The simple, easy-to-use test provides a result in just over 15 minutes and is equivalent to a 14 day viral culture laboratory test. BioStar® OIA® FLU does not discriminate between influenza A and B and is ideal for establishing diagnosis prior to prescribing a neuraminidase inhibitor such as Relenza™, which is active against both types. The use of the test provides fast accurate diagnosis and hence the opportunity for quick and correct treatment, a reduction in patient waiting times and overall costs.

Biostar® OIA® FLU A/B
Launched in mid 2003, BioStar® OIA® FLU A/B is a 'differentiated' flu test that distinguishes between influenza A and B. Like the BioStar® OIA® FLU test it is a simple, easy-to-use test with performance equivalent to 14 day viral culture.
